Gift Ideas For Surfers | Paradise Surfboards

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

It can be hard to figure out what gifts to get a surfer and what they will like, so no need to look any further! Below you will find all sorts of gifts to give to surfers with different price ranges depending on what you are willing to spend. I'll try and link a few versions of each gift for you to shop around.

Wax: Surfers can never have enough wax, right?! So just get them loooooads of wax and they'll love you forever (or until they need more). Just make sure you get the right type of AKA for warm water, cold water, etc. and wax that they actually like because if not... you may have a problem.

The Stormrider Surf Guide: This is an awesome gift to give because when you're planning any trip, you need to make sure there are waves, right?! If like me, you're dying to take your other half to somewhere like Italy, but you hear "There aren't any waves in Italy, silly!" then just whip out this guide and show them that there are spots in Italy so it's a great incentive!

Fins: According to my husband, the more fins, the better, so I had to include fins on this list. Now, I'll be honest, some fins can be pretty pricey, but for all those who say "You don't need expensive fins to surf well, it's just a gimmick". Blah, blah, blah. I will say this, I can see the difference in others' surfing when they don't have the best fins. If it was all a gimmick, how come Kelly Slater (GOAT of surfing) doesn't use plastic fins? I'm not saying as soon as you buy expensive fins your mate will be like Kelly (of course not, there's only one Kelly) BUT it will definitely take their surfing to the next level.

Changing Towel/Robie: For those of you who don't know what this is, it's basically a changing towel but sort of like a onesie. You could be thinking "Why? Just get a normal towel and wrap it around you?" and that is a fair comment, but if you live in the UK, for example, in the middle of winter it is absolutely freeeeezing when getting changed so when wearing this all in one towel, it takes the bitterness from the cold air. There are different brands of these towels, so shop around and you'll see different prices.

Gloves/Boots: If your surfer bud lives where it's freezing then they're most definitely going to need these items. I know there are some people that think it doesn't look cool to wear gloves and/or boots BUT if your buddy complains about being cold and having to come in early because they felt cold, then these items will definitely help. They will stay in the water for a little longer and not complain about the cold! But if they can take the cold then they're pretty hardcore!

Indo Board: This is a fun yet truly useful gift. It improves with balance and when surfing you need to have balance right? What's good about the balance trainer is that it is also pretty fun. There are so many tricks you can learn on it, just search on YouTube and you'll see so many posts about it.

Surfboard: An actual surfboard. According to my husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law, the more boards the better!! (They have 100 boards between them! I'm joking... only 99). OK, hear me out, seriously, I say this suggestion quite hesitantly because there's no getting this one wrong - you HAVE to get it right as this is more of an expensive gift. One thing, most boards aren't cheap, so if you buy a board and it turns out to be completely the wrong shape or size, you're stuffed basically. You NEED to make sure you know the size of board for the person you're buying for (and by the way, if you're actually getting a board for someone, then whoever your mate is must be a pretty cool individual!). Make sure you know what their board dimensions are because if it's totally wrong then either two things happen

1). They do ride it, but hesitantly because it doesn't actually work well for them or their local waves but they don't want to hurt your feelings so they'll tell you how amazing the board is but secretly they're telling their other surfer mates that they hate the board but only ride it because it was a gift.

or

2). They never use it again and you have a perfectly good board just sitting somewhere not being ridden and getting old. That could be £400+ just in a board bag or stuffed in a garage. That wouldn't feel too good, would it?

Moral of the story, just tell them you're buying it (it's still a present if you're paying for it!) or find out from any of their friends what you think you should get for them.
